Today's the day! Single Use Plastic Ban has commenced!
Our single-use plastics ban has commenced! We’ve asked South Australian businesses, industry and community to get on board and help us replace the waste by either doing away with unnecessary items altogether or replacing them with more sustainable alternatives. We are the first Australian jurisdiction to ban single-use plastic products and I am so proud to be part of a government that has worked hard to deliver this important environmental reform. Our pioneering legislation bans single-use plastic items including cutlery, straws and drink stirrers, then in 12 months time, oxo-degradable plastic products and expanded polystyrene food and beverage containers (such as cups, bowls, plates and clam-shell containers) will also be banned. Importantly this legislation also outlines a framework for more products to be added into the future.
